for Transport What our new lawyers say about us Kevin O'Sullivan comments: "It is daunting to leave your specialisation in private practice to work for the DfT if you haven't really looked at administrative law since law school. It's worth it, though, as the work is far more varied and interesting than I have experienced before. I've had a lot of client contact in my first year, and it's been good to develop working relationships with policy colleagues with whom you have a real shared interest in the outcome. The legal team in DfT is a good size, too - large enough to have the resources you need, particularly information services and IT, but small enough for everyone to know one another". Kate Staples works in aviation. She says "After six years in a specialist area of law in private practice I needed new challenges, so decided to join the Department for Transport. From day one I was advising on a range of important issues, including the hot topic of aviation security. Not only has my work been varied and stimulating, but I have also found my colleagues and clients to be friendly and supportive. I am glad that I made the change and that I need not be characterised as an aviation lawyer forever, because I can move around the Department if I want to".
