Maternity/Paternity Leave & Career Breaks

Most Government organisations offer more than the 26-week legislative minimum when it comes to maternity leave. You may also be entitled to a career break – these vary from six months to five years – and you have a right to ten days’ paternity leave, either immediately after your child is born or up to 56 days after the birth.

Those with young children may be able to claim parental leave. Career breaks and paid/unpaid leave may also be arranged for those with other caring responsibilities.
