Salaries

Much is made of the differentials in salary between the public sector and parts of the private sector. While private sector lawyers can earn more – often by working punishing hours – they can also earn less, and often without the range of benefits that any lawyer joining the GLS can expect to receive.

While salaries will vary according to the specific area in which you work, you can expect a competitive rate of pay, with a starting salary that takes into account your experience and qualifications. Your subsequent salary will be determined, at least partly, by your performance, which will be annually assessed and reviewed. It is up to individual Government Departments to determine what salaries to offer. But you will get a flavour of what to expect by looking at the jobs in the Vacancies section of this website. Information on specific salary ranges will be included in the information pack available from your Department’s Recruitment Team.
