2012 Open Days

The GLS Open Day is an ideal opportunity to gain a real insight into the work of the GLS. Over the course of an afternoon, you will assume the role of GLS lawyers in practical workshops which will allow you to experience key areas of GLS work for yourself. You will have the chance to hear from current and recent trainees about what life as a trainee lawyer in the GLS is really like. And you will have the chance to work with and talk to GLS lawyers and trainees throughout the course of the event.

Where

20 April - Bootle, Liverpool (80 places available)
20 April – Central London (80 places available)

Format

• Litigation Workshop – a 1 hour workshop in which attendees will work as government lawyers acting in a judicial review case.
• Advisory Workshop – a 1 hour workshop in which attendees will work as lawyers in ‘departments’ seeking to introduce a new government Bill.
• Panel Discussion – a panel of current trainees will talk about their experiences since joining the GLS.

The Open Day has been designed so that prior knowledge of the law is not required. However, the ability to work with others to solve problems and awareness of the GLS and its work are essential!

Eligibility

To apply for a place at the Open Day, you must be eligible to apply for a place on the GLS Legal Trainee Scheme later in the year. Consequently, you must meet three essential criteria; nationality, immigration status and academic achievement. We are unable to offer places at the Open Day to those who do not meet all elements of this criteria.

If you haven’t already done so, please click on the following link to be added to our mailing list.

We will contact all those on the mailing list in late February / early March and invite to complete a short application form for either the Liverpool or London Open Day.

In the event that we receive more applications then there are places available at either event, we will hold a ballot to allocate places.
