Trainee Places On Offer 2010

The table below lists the departments offering legal trainee posts for this year’s competition. Successful candidates will be recruited to commence their training contracts in 2012.

Between 18 – 22 training places are on offer.

Department Places available (Trainee Solicitor/Pupil Barrister)

Treasury Solicitor’s Department (TSol)

7 trainee solicitor &
2 pupil barrister posts
Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) 2 - 4 trainee places (open to both trainee solicitors and pupil barristers)
NB max of 2 pupil barrister posts available.

Department for Communities & Local Government (CLG)

2 trainee places (open to trainee solicitors only)

Department for Work & Pensions/ Health (DWP/DH)

2 trainee solicitor posts
Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) 2 - 4 trainee places (open to both trainee solicitors and pupil barristers)

Department for Transport (DFT)

1 place trainee solicitor or pupil barrister post


Please note that candidates apply to the GLS as a whole and not to any one specific Department. During the later stages of the recruitment process we will offer candidates the opportunity to specify three Departments they would be most interested in joining if successful in the competition. However, there can be no guarantee that candidates will be allocated to their preferred Departments.
