Training
We take training seriously. Throughout your GLS
career, we make it our priority to support you in meeting the requirements
of your professional body and in keeping up-to-date with legal developments.
The GLS offers a range of focused training, including programmes on administrative
law, civil litigation, criminal law, EC Law, human rights and legislation
amongst other topics. There are also conferences on such topics as EC
Law and Administrative Law & Human Rights. All lawyers new to the
GLS, including trainees, are required to attend an introductory course
which provides a valuable insight into Government legal practice, as well
as a perfect opportunity to meet colleagues from right across Government.
The GLS also encourages coaching and training in management skills, providing
many courses and seminars in this important area of legal practice.
In addition, some Government Departments offer sponsorship for relevant
external qualifications and practical language training. Many also develop
their own training programmes. These are supplemented by a range of training
opportunities at the National School of Government or at universities
and other external institutions.
