Vacation Placement Scheme

Name: Amy
Department: Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

What did you do during your placement?

  • Research on a specific area of law forming basis of advice to counsel
  • Attended a hearing at Crown Court
  • Attended a judicial review hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice
  • Attended meetings and briefings with clients
  • Went to Houses of Parliament

What did you learn during your placement?

It was great to learn at first hand about the procedural aspect of prosecutions and observe the relationship with counsel and other member of GLS legal teams. Throughout the two weeks, I gained an understanding about how GLS lawyers have the opportunity to move within and between departments and work on different aspects of law, which is something that really appeals to me.

What did you most enjoy?

It was as great experience to go to the Royal Courts of Justice and see a judicial review something which is simply a phrase in a textbook during your studies! The trip to the Houses of Parliament was excellent!
